The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has revealed why he quickly visited his closest rival at the just concluded primary election, Governor Nyesom Wike.
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar visited the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike on Monday in Abuja.
In a post shared on his Facebook page after the visit, the candidate said his visit to Wike was to ensure that every stakeholder is brought on board to boost the party’s chances of emerging victorious in the 2023 presidential election.
Atiku Abubakar wrote: “In continuation of my commitment to bring everyone on board in ensuring that the PDP stands as one united party, earlier today, I visited His Excellency Gov Nyseom Wike at his Abuja residence. This is a continuous process. -AA”
The former Vice President defeated Wike, who was his closet rival at the presidential primary of the main opposition party on Saturday night.
Atiku got 371 votes while Wike polled 237 votes after the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal pulled out of the race for Atiku during the electoral process.
Inside sources say that Atiku on Monday met with Wike as part of the reconciliation move for the party, to give the PDP a better chance in the 2023 presidential election against the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The reconciliation meeting was also attended by former Ekiti State Governor and PDP presidential aspirant, Ayodele Fayose, amongst other PDP chieftains.
Wike has failed to react following his defeat at the presidential primary of the main opposition party.
