Damasus spoke during a video interview with media personality, Ebuka Obi Uchendu.

According to her, her family name used to be Ojukwu, but it was changed during the Nigerian civil war.

She stated that during the time, it was assumed to be related to the Biafran general, Ojukwu, and people automatically attacked anyone they assumed to be related to him.

My family name was Ojukwu but it was changed to Damasus during the civil war to avoid being attacked by Nigerian Soldiers…,” she said in part.

weightloss_abuja: “So many people changed their surnames during the war. It was for survival. Gladly, she’s setting the record straight”

dds_express_services: “Ikwerre man will soon come to say his name us eze okechukwu but he is not igbo.”

mr_abara: “Not surprised. This is the same reason many Igbo people in Delta, Rivers, and Edo still vehemently deny being Igbo. I guess it’s a generational trauma stuff.”

segun_adegoke: “So Stella Damascus is originally an Igbo woman”
