Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has described the challenges he faced when he was appointed minister of FCT, Abuja.
Speaking to journalists on TV, he said that there was significant opposition due to his background and regional origin. He stated how some people made it difficult for him and his team to succeed because they were from a different part of the country.
Wike expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for his trust and support. He said Tinubu’s confidence in him and his team has been well-placed, as they have worked hard to achieve positive results in Abuja and residents of FCT are satisfied with the progress he has made so far.
The Minister said: “When I came onboard, there was this agitation seen and unseen that ‘oh they are not from a particular part of the country’ and therefore everything was done to make sure that it was not easy for us. But I thank Mr President for having the confidence in us and believing in us that we will not disappoint him and Nigerians. Today, one can beat his chest to say that we are happy with what we have done, residents of Abuja are happy with what we have done”
