It was an emotional moment for the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as he bade farewell to Hebert Wigwe at the latter’s home town today, March 9, 2024.
Known to honour close allies, it was not surprising to see a sorrowful Sanwo-Olu during the burial ceremony.
Eyewitnesses say he gazed into blank space and sighed intermittently through the entire proceedings.
As a final goodbye, the Lagos State Governor wrote on his social media pages that: “Today was the funeral service and internment ceremony of my dear friend, Herbert, his wife, Doreen, and their son, Chizi.
“We gathered to pay our respects, sharing heartfelt eulogies and offering support and solace to the family during this difficult time.
“Though the pain of loss remains, the memories we hold dear of Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and their son will always keep their spirit alive in our hearts.
“Rest in peace, my brother and friend.“
Besides being close allies, a large part of the late Wigwe’s businesses are located in Lagos.
Access Bank was also inaugurated in the State where the headquarters is situated. His contribution to the economy of Nigeria’s commercial headquarters can only be imagined.
