Nyesome Wike, the immediate past Governor of Rivers State received the loudest ovation during the swearing-in of ministers-designate at the banquet hall of the State House today, August 21.

During his introduction as a minister-designate from Rivers by the presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the guests applauded Wike. Short of receiving a standing ovation there was much laughter across the hall as he tried to suppress a smile.

The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, and the former governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, led the cheerleaders as the minister-designate took a bow as his citation was read.

Wike’s reaction after taking his oath of office elicited even more laughter from the audience. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain shook and held President Bola Tinubu’s hand for longer as both men grinned and laughed into the cameras.

There was even more laughter as the former Rivers governor walked to his seat.

President Tinubu named Wike as minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He was one of 48 ministerial nominees screened by the Senate.

He is considered as instrumental to Tinubu’s victory across many of the Southern States in collaboration with his close political associates, the G5 governors.

The G5 governors who are all members of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vowed to ensure that the president does not return to the North for the next 8 years.

They therefore worked assiduously to ensure the success of the ruling party whose candidate, Bola Tnubu is from the South West.
