Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the new WTO DG says she is set to exceed expectations so the world would be confident to give other women and indeed other Africans a chance in similar positions.
She said this in an interview with Arise News, while preparing to resume at the World Trade Organization Office in Geneva on the 1st of March.
66-year-old Ngozi’s emergence as the new Director General of the world trade body breaks a 26-year record as first African and first female DG.
She is also known in her career journey for her many firsts being the first female Finance Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister in her home country, Nigeria among others.
The Havard graduate hopes to use this ‘first’ to exceed expectations and pave the way for other competent women and indeed Africans to be given a chance.
Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is known for her African prints clothing with a signature head tie snuggly knotted at the top of her head.
She says she is proud to be African, proud to be Nigerian and humbled to be given a chance to prove her mettle.
