A woman in Indonesia has collapsed as she was flogged publicly for engaging in extra-marital affairs.
The unidentified woman from the city of Banda Aceh in Indonesia writhed in agony as she tried to endure the pain.
She was sentenced to 17 strokes along with her partner.
The punishment was carried out by another woman who was masked from head to toe to conceal her identity.
The convicted woman was dressed in hijab and was flogged with a bamboo stick until she collapsed in agony.
Her partner was subjected to the ordeal at the same scene.
Aceh is the only Indonesian province that governs with the tenets of the Sharia law. Many of it activities are directed by a radical interpretation of Islam’s holy book, the Quran.
For more serious offences like homosexuality, the punishment may comprise up to 150 strokes of the cane where victims almost pass out or are hospitalised after the ordeal.
