An Indian woman is said to be battling for her life in an intensive care unit of a hospital after fighting a tiger in an attempt to rescue her child.

A local official, Sanjeev Shrivastava who narrated the incident to AFP News said the woman identified as Archana Choudhary had taken her child out of the house late at night on Sunday to ease himself when the animal descended on him.

Reports say the tiger strayed out from the nearby Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and invaded Choudhary’s home in the central state of Madhya Pradesh.

While she was relieving herself and the mother was watching over her, the tiger reportedly jumped over and tried to sink its teeth into the child’s head but the mother leapt to the rescue.

The reports said the Tiger kept trying to snatch the boy until villagers heard Choudhary’s screams and rushed to her rescue.

Upon sighting the mob, the tiger then slunk away into the forest.

“She has been admitted to the hospital. She is out of danger and recovering. The baby is also doing fine,” Shrivastava told journalists.

He explained that the mother sustained degrees of injuries in the process. She also suffered punctured lungs and wounds to her abdomen while the toddler had deep gashes on his head.

Reports revealed that authorities have launched a search operation to push the tiger back to its territory and that villagers had warned to stay indoors at night.
