Women Affairs Minister Visits Chief of Army Staff over Alleged S*xual Harassment of Female Personnel

Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, the Women Affairs Minister has paid a visit to the Nigerian Army high command where she met the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja over the recent viral report of a female personnel.

In a press release issued by Ohaeri Osondu Joseph, Special Assistant, Media to the Minister, she was adequately updated by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja on efforts by the Army to resolve the matter.

In the course of the visit, the Minister was also informed with documented evidence that the lady’s salary was never stopped as she was paid up to December last year alongside her other colleagues and also directed some senior officers to accompany the Minister to visit the lady.

Responding, Uju Ohanenye expressed her delight with the efforts the Army High Command has made to address the matter and specifically thanked the Chief of Army Staff for putting necessary measures in place for the lady’s rehabilitation before they commence investigations into the matter.

Uju Kennedy Ohanenye said: “Pursuant to my earlier resolve to wade into the matter involving a Nigerian Army female personnel by name Ruth Ogunleye who alleged on social media that she was subjected to sexual harassment by her superiors, I visited the Army High Command in Abuja today.

During the visit, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja gave detailed update on the efforts the Army has put in place towards resolving the matter. He also provided documented evidence showing the lady’s salary was never suspended and that she was paid up to December last year alongside her other colleagues.

He also directed some senior officers to accompany the me to where the lady is undergoing rehabilitation before they can commence investigation into her allegations.

I interacted with Miss Ogunleye and gave her strong assurances that my Ministry will continue to monitor the situation and optimistic that the outcome will be fine.”

Miss Ruth Ogunleye’s video went viral last week with allegations of s*xual harassment, suspension of salary, stigmatization and unfair treatment by her superiors in the Army.
