Women’s Rights Activist Reacts to Cross-dressing Bill by Lawmakers

Women’s rights activist, Laila St. Matthew-Daniel has reacted to the bill before the House of Representatives seeking to ban cross-dressing in Nigeria.



The bill was presented before the lawmakers on Tuesday, 5th of April and immediately passed 1st reading.

It was presented by Hon Muda Lawal Umar on the floor of the House.

If passed into law, cross-dressing will become an offence in the country with the exemption of those using it for entertainment.

Anyone found guilty will be liable to be liable for a jail term of 6 months or N500,000.

Taking to her Facebook page, the Women’s Rights Activist wrote that there are “So many important bills to pass on areas of security, reduced allowances, child marriage, women’s equity etc and a ‘cross dressing’ bill is more important? Who the heck are these lawmakers.”

In a similar reaction, popular cross-dresser, Bobrisky in a cynical comment, urged the lawmakers to pass it horridly since it will very will solve the country’s many economic, social and security problems.
