A worrisome trend is unfolding currently in Nigeria due to skyrocketing inflation and hunger as slices of yam are selling in markets.
Popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho laments that people are increasingly unable to buy full yam tubers which sell from as much as N1,500 for the standard sizes.
Sellers who sometimes find it difficult to sell have therefor resorted to slicing the yams to affordable portions and selling them at as little as N200.
In some cases, only few of the old customers as still unable to afford the slices. The public react to the development and plead with the government to do whatever it takes to reverse the trend.
Nigeria has, for over 1 year, been declared as the poverty capital of the world and number 3 country with the highest inflation rates.
