A young female doctor identified as Dr Megafu Nwando Chinelo is reported to have been killed in the Abuja-Kaduna train attack by terrorists on Monday night.
The train loaded with 970 passengers is said to have taken off from Abuja on its way to Kaduna. Unfortunately, 30 minutes to the end of the journey, it hit some improvised explosive devices (IED) on the rail tracks, close to Rigasa station.
The incident damaged some of the coaches. Sadly help could not immediately be reached as there was no telecoms network in the area.
A security source who spoke on the incident said, “There is no network in the area so we cannot get any information until the team we have dispatched returns.
“What we know is that suspected IEDs were planted on the track and the train has derailed. We don’t know for sure if there is any injury or death.”
There was, however, pandemonium soon afterwards when it was discovered that a female medical practitioner allegedly died in the incident.
The victim, female Dr Chinelo had earlier raised an alarm on Twitter that she was shot in the train.
“I’m in the train. I have been shot please pray for me”, Chinelo’s last tweet on the microblogging platform read.
Her friend, @the_beardedsina via his Twitter handle on Tuesday morning disclosed that she didn’t make it.
“Just woke up to a sad news My friend just woke up to losing a close friend who was shot at the Abuja Kaduna train incident by terrorists She tweeted yesterday that we should pray for her. Sadly she didn’t make it. She was a Doctor Nigeria why? I’m heartbroken.
“I was just here yesterday tweeting and asking if there were medical personnels on the train who could offer emergency services And some people were here saying why will I think of such a thing..really? for basic first aid to be provided for injured May Nigeria not happen to us,” the friend of the deceased wrote in bitterness.”
