A young Congolese man has made history as he weds triplets in a colourful ceremony in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Luwizo, 32, began dating one of the triplets after meeting her on Facebook. She later introduced him to her sisters, who also fell in love with him.
In DRC Congo, people are legally free to marry multiple wives.
Luwizo’s new wives, Natasha, Nathalie and Nadege appeared very excited on their big day in Kalehe, the eastern part of DRC Congo, near the border with Rwanda.
He said the triplets popped the question themselves but he could not remember precisely when. However, he added that he dutifully said yes to the joint proposal as he felt “obliged to because they are triplets.”
The groom added that, “It wasn’t an easy decision because until now, my parents don’t understand what I’m doing.
“You have to lose something in order to gain another. In addition, everyone has his own preferences.
“So, I’m happy to marry the triplets no matter what others think. My parents do not like my decision and that is why they didn’t attend my wedding. All I can say is love has not limits.”
One of the three said she and her sisters had shared everything since they were children and so sharing a husband was not a hard choice for them.
